Bowen Technique is named after an Australian called Tom Bowen who developed the technique in the 1980’s. It consists of a series of gentle rolling moves over muscle and soft tissue using fingers or thumbs on specific areas, I apply gentle pressure to effect a movement of the tissue. The majority of the moves can be performed through light clothing. I will leave the room between moves to allow the person to relax and the body to listen to what moves have been made.
Bowen addresses the whole body, but may be particularly helpful for:
A Bowen treatment consists of sequences of small moves at varying pressures, each at a specific site on the body. The treatment is pleasant with no forceful manipulation and is a gentle hand on therapy which treats YOU as a unique individual for up to 45 minutes.
At your first appointment I will take a full medical history and details of any current medication as well as details about your current symptoms in order to build as full a picture as possible. I will take notes in order to be able to assess progress at each treatment. For new problems it is generally helpful to book a block of 3 treatments about a week apart. Generally, 2-3 treatments are often enough to bring lasting relief, although if the problem is long standing, it may take a little longer. Many clients choose to have regular treatments every 6-8 weeks in order to keep flexible.
The treatment can be performed on skin or through light clothing (such as t-shirt and leggings). The treatment can be performed lying, sitting or standing, depending on which is most comfortable for you at that time. Your comfort and needs are my priority and all treatments will be specifically tailored to deal with your symptoms.
